Domaine Dupont - Frankrig

Since 1887, the Dupont Estate has been producing ciders and calvados in Normandy, in the heart of Pays d’Auge region. With its grand total of 30 hectares (50 acres) of orchards, the estate has, for many years, resolutely followed a path towards excellence.
Taking inspiration from the best techniques used to make cognac and its great blends, Etienne Dupont has studied, tried out and refined his cellar work to reach the same levels of elegance and expressiveness as found in the best wines.
Drawing on the expertise of oenologists from wine growing regions, the estate has improved its methods. They use techniques for cider making which very similar to winemaking, namely barrel aging for its Reserve Cuvee, “méthode traditionnelle” used for sparkling wines for the Cuvee Colette. All the ciders carry a vintage date.
The Louis Dupont family estate exports most of its production throughout the world, including the top restaurants in New York. The ciders and calvados are among the best in Pays d’Auge.

 

- Which part of the cider production is most important to you? (briefly)

Apple type and maturity is key to our production. Our different ciders are madewith different apple varieties specially selected for their profile.
Hygiene, temperature control,slow fermentation are key to get the best expression of our apples and our terroir.

What do you find most interesting about producing cider? (briefly)

Cider is before all a family heritage more that 4 generations of Dupont have been producing cider. So it’s in our DNA !
A lot of people think tant cider is a sweetapple drink with very little character. The 16 different apple varieties we have at the Domain, combined with the family expertise enables us to show that ciders with can be very elegant with different aromatic profile. Explaining this to people interested and seing their enthousiasm after tasting, this is a great pleasure.

Cidre Bouché - Made using the traditional methods of Pays d’Auge. 

Organic cider - Made from apples grown organically.

Cidre Reserve - Oak aged. A gastronomic cider.

Cuvée Colette: - Made like a sparkling wine. A very elegant cider.
